Welcome to my blog! I’m Lexie, a student passionate about positive psychology, the environment, and urban design. Blending all of my interests together, I found myself drawn to the world of biophilic design.

Having recently hit a population of eight billion people and undergoing a period of rapid technological innovation, the complexities of sustainable development have never been more nuanced nor important. With our world moving so quickly, and with so many global dilemmas we face in our foreseen future, many have found themselves isolated in a state of hopelessness. The notion of biophilia, that humans have innate connections with nature, offers solutions to all of these issues. Elements of biophilic design offer inherent benefits that are accessible to all who enter the spaces they occupy. It brings strong decreases: lower depression, anxiety, and stress levels, lower childhood asthma, social isolation, and crime, while concurrently bringing strong increases: higher worker productivity, creativity, test scores, higher generosity and cooperation, and most important of all, higher laughter and joy.

Biophilic design allows people to flourish while simultaneously consciously caring for the environment, the economy, and community culture— the three pillars of sustainable development. Using my blog, I hope to share the power of biophilia while also documenting my own growth and development as an aspiring green urban planner.

I crave knowledge more than anything, no matter the form. To explore my intellectual interests, I’ve read books by renowned authors such as Tim Beatley and Dr. Phill Tabb, proactively networked with experts in the biophilic field at the 2024 Biophilic Leadership Summit, signed up for regularly receiving research paper suggestions to read, and joined international organizations that share my goals and are committed to my values. Below are the organizations that I’m a part of!
